moose hunt gone bad

The hunt was booked in 2008. A moose hunt for my son and I. Outfitter guaranteed we could draw 2 tags for moose and hunt deer and elk for a "pack fee" of $500. I hunted bear in may with the outfitter and he seemed okay. Well 2010 came around and we were unable to draw a single moose tag. The outfitter is sitting with my deposit of $8000 saying it is non refundable. He has not returned phone calls for over 6 months, he has not responded to emails or letters. Idaho Guides and Outfitters has tried to help us but also has trouble getting a response. He is still trying to book moose hunts at a greatly reduced rate and only needing a 25% deposit, guaranteeing your hunt date. This guy is a crook!!There is no game left in his area and he is desperate for your deposit.

Spring Black Bear

This was my first guided hunt thus far. My wife suprised me with a wonderful Christmas gift and we booked thru Glenn at Tundra Tour. I had spoken to Robin Kohls on several occasions prior to arriving and he was very informative about the area, gear, and the species. I was his only hunter the week of June 6th. On our first day we met Robin at Tom Cat Sporting Goods where we purchased our Licences. The weather was unseasonably wet but the Sellway is beautiful. My first afternoon on stand I saw a Cinimon Sow with a white "V" shaped patch on her chest and 2 cubs. The second day the weather was beautiful and i saw 2 black bears (one i passed on) the other i harvested. The remainder of the stay we rode horses and did some site seeing. If the weather was better there is great steelhead fishing on the Lockshaw River. Although we did not Lodge with Kohls, we got to see their Cabins which looked like a comfortable place to stay. Brenda Kohls cooked some great home cooked meals that fufilled our appitite. (You will not go hungry) Robin and Brenda were both wonderful hosts and very knowledgable. I would Hunt with Robin any day of the week. Rich Flinn

Reviewer Comments: Did a wilderness drop camp(2007) into the selway/bitteroot out of Kooski Id. Nine hour ride into camp in the rain. Last hour in the dark. The guide had just come out from New York that june. Nice kid but had alot to learn. All our gear was wet and the tents leaked. Lanterns wouldn,t light, wood they had stacked was left uncovered and was wet. We were told the four of us would be the only ones that had hunted this area in two years. After he got our money he took 3 people in the week before us. He didn,t even have the courtesy to meet us the morning we rode to camp. Between the four of us we only saw 6 elk,no deer or bear in 7 days of hunting. Did hear wolves several nights. I would not recomend this outfitter. Worst trip I have ever been on.

Reviewer Comments: Drop Camp Elk Hunt. VERY few game, lots of Wolf. Told we would be first in remote camp, not hunted for three years. Paid extra for distance & first to hunt. Week prior to our elk hunt Owner took party to our camp & took two nice bulls. Our guide was great person, but complete Rookie from N.Y. Did not see Owner until hunt was over, then he told us all the spots we should have hunted to be successful. Tents dripped all week. Our clothes and gear soaked during transport in, wet all week. Would not EVER use again.

Reviewer Comments: Owner never showed up on the day we loaded up. Didn't give us any ideas where and how to hunt this part of the wilderness. The four of rode 25 miles into the wildeness in a pouring rain and didn't get into camp until an hour and half after dark. We got a late start but they didn't tell us to hold out any lights for the ride in,so it was total darkness. The tents leaked water and all our gear got wet or damp from the pack in. The laterns had trouble lighting because of bad generators. We were told we would be the first ones to hunt this camp in two years. He had a group of hunters in this camp the week before us. In seven days the four of us saw 1 bull and 5 cows and no deer or bear in all this country. The one thing we did hear were wolfs which is why we moved from are old camp around Mcall ID. It looks like ID has a real problem on their hands with this reintroduced predator. I will not hunt this state again until they get this problem under control

New Mexico Hunting Information

New Mexico is one of the top destinations for trophy Elk and Antelope hunting. Draw odds can be tough depending on the unit but landowner tags are also available for those who don't draw. Mule Deer are plentiful but generally of average size. Only a couple of units and reservations consistently produce big muleys.
