Too Much driving
First let me say that the accommodations and food was excellent. The owners were very nice, and the guide was friendly and always on time. The weather was windy and cold, so we knew the deer would be holed up for a while. The terrain we hunted was mostly open range land, and some coulees with scattered vegetation. We did see quite a few deer, mostly smaller bucks with a couple larger ones once in a while. Since the rut had not started, this was expected. What was not expected was how much time we spent sitting in the truck driving around. We were never more than 100 yards from the truck and did most of the glassing from the truck. During an 8-10 hour day of "hunting", I probably spent 6-7 hours sitting in the truck. Pretty much it was guided "road hunting". Even though it was a rifle hunt, I took my bow and the only time I spent away from the truck was when I took it upon myself to spot and stalk a couple deer. The one time my buddy had a chance at a real nice deer, the guide apparently did not even know where they were as they ended up busting them out and only had to close 200 yards from the 400 we originally saw them at. Since this was our first, and probably last, guided hunt, I was generally disappointed in the fact that there was no real hunting at all. Drive around, glass for deer, drive closer. That was most of the day. Considering we paid a premium to hunt with Armells on private land, I really expected a little more effort at hunting, rather than having what I would consider an overpriced chauffeur. I believe we could have done just as well ourselves with just a map of the area.

Armells - chauffeur driven hunt

Youth Elk hunt
Another hunt with Armells creek outfitters and another great memory. Earlier in the year Mark went out of his way to help make sure the boy's put in for a special cow elk tags after we did not get drawn for non-resident deer liceses. both my sons age 14 and 16 drew the cow elk tags. we hunted with a great guide Rick whom knew the area well and saw over 100 elk in the first 4 hours. After a short stalk on some bedded elk and a long 20 minute wait in freezing cold temperatures a cow finally stood at about 300 yards. we then had to wait several more minutes for the cow to move away from a nice bull bedded directly behind so the shot would not hit the bull. At last my son Kenny made a perfect shot. My other son John then was able to connect on another one from the same herd. The only dissapointment from my boy's is they did not miss any school and would miss out on more of Deanna's great meals. Mark again treated us great like last year and the boy's hope to go again next year this time with a bull tag. I would recommend this outfit to anyone young,old or in between they will make every effort possible to insure you have a great time.

Mark and Deanna are two of the finest people you will ever meet in your lifetime. Weather during our hunt was minus 20 windchill, blowing snow and deer everywhere. Food was fantastic, great accomadations. I highly recommend them but don't want the secret out.

Reviewer Comments: I booked my first elk hunt with Mark and Deanna in Sept. 2002. Tagged my first elk, a 6X6 the first afternoon. Mark knows the area extremely well and got this rookie elk hunter a 25 yard shot with a bow. Spent the rest of the week chasing several nice muleys around the ranch. Was a great hunt with only two hunters in camp and we stayed in an nice older ranch house that was located close to some coulees with several mule deer. For the antelope hunters there are tons of them around. Deanna cooked lots of good food and I had a great time. I would definitely recommend Mark and Deanna as outfitters that work hard to make sure you have a great hunt both in the field and in camp.

Reviewer Comments: THE WEATHER WAS HOT & DRY SO THE GAME WAS HOLDING UP IN THE TIMBER & BRUSH MOST OF THE DAY SO WE HAD TO KICK THEM OUT, KIND OF TOUGH TO FIND THE BIGGER BUCKS. WE WERE BLESSED WITH RAIN ONE DAY SO WE GOT TO ENJOY THE GUMBO MUD FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS. WE ALL ( 4 HUNTERS )GOT RESPECTFUL BUCKS & I GOT A NICE ANTELOPE ( ONLY ONE THAT HAD A TAG). ON A YEAR THE WEATHER WOULD BE MORE SEASONABLE THERE IS A CHANCE TO TAKE A TROPHY BUCK HERE.

Reviewer Comments: I booked a 3 day antelope hunt which started on 10/14/01. The first morning, after checking the sights on my rifle, we drove on some of the country roads along land that Mark leased for the antelope hunting, as well as some of the 4,000 acres he owns. In the course of the first 2 hours, we had stopped and glassed 4 different herds and after discussing what we had seen, we decided to go back to the second herd we had seen which contained 2 shooter bucks. We relocated the herd and got out ahead of them over a hill and parked. We walked a few hundred yards along the side of the hill and set up for the approaching herd. They came along the side hill around 200 yds off when they spotted us. A buck with thick bases was trailing the herd and he stopped broadside. He went down at my shot which was aided by the use of shooting sticks and we walked off the shot at 285 yds. The buck green scored at 77-3/8" with 6-1/2" bases which carried up almost 8" to the 4-3/4" prongs. It was 10:30am on the first day and my antelope hunt was over and I was extremely pleased with the buck I had taken. Since I was the only hunter in camp that week, Mark took me around his ranch in pursuit of coyotes and we made a short trip up to the Missouri River Basin 20 miles to the north and observed 9 Big Horn Sheep Ewes, and over 100 elk, including several nice bulls. Deanna served up some great meals and I had a memorable time getting to know Mark and Deanna, as well as their two sons. I would defintely recommend Armells for antelope, elk and mule deer and hopt to visit them again in the future for either mule deer or elk.

Reviewer Comments: This was our first guided hunt (dad,brother & I) and we had a great time. We seen a lot of game - deer, antelope, elk, etc.... Mark knows the area very well & is very good at spotting game. We all took good bucks, a 6 x 6, 6 x 5, and a 5 x 3. We only pulled one antelope tag and got a nice one with many other nice ones running around. Marks wife Deanna did all the cooking and we ate very well that week. Marks family took us in as if we were their own for the week, making it a very comfortable and enjoyable hunt. I would recommend this hunt to anyone who loves seeing a large variety of game and a very good chance at some trophy deer, antelope and elk.

Reviewer Comments: If your looking for a 300 class bull or better, this is the place to go! Mark limits the number of hunters per year so theres always going to be trophy animals around. All but one of the elk I saw were 300 or better. Unfortunatly I could never get a good shot.( bowhunting) Be prepared to do some walking. We averaged about 5 miles a day, which isn\\\'t bad unless your going through the infamous \\\"Gumbo\\\". The food was plentiful and some of the best you\\\'ll ever have. Deanna works as hard as Mark. This is an outfit that will do its best to try and get you an animal. If you do your part you cant loose.

Utah Hunting Information
Utah has recently been outstanding for trophy elk, but the best tags take many years to draw. Utah does have conservation tags available for purchase that allow hunters to bypass the drawing. Given the high demand for these premium tags prices can be high. In the past Utah has been a top trophy mule deer state but recently only a handful of units consistently produce B&C caliber deer.
New Mexico Hunting Information
New Mexico is one of the top destinations for trophy Elk and Antelope hunting. Draw odds can be tough depending on the unit but landowner tags are also available for those who don't draw. Mule Deer are plentiful but generally of average size. Only a couple of units and reservations consistently produce big muleys.
Ohio Hunting Information
Ohio is best known for its trophy whitetail deer. In fact, the world record non-typical whitetail was harvested in Greene county by Mike Beatty in November 2001,
