MGD 2012
I have hunted this ranch for 6 years and feel I know it well. In that time I have taken 3 bulls but none over 300. Every year I seem to have a chance to fill my tag. Last year was good and I should have had a decent 5 by 5. I will be hunting there again this Sept. THe ranch is nice and the food is really good. I never have used a guide as I perfer to go it on my own.

Easy hunt on a property that does have elk
Property has good elk habitat and does have elk. Hospitality was excellent and the improved accommodations were a very welcomed addition. We encountered trespassers on about 30% of our hunts. In the landowner and ranch manager's defense, the egress of public land into the ranch and the local's disrespect for property ownership are the causative issues. It does not help that we were aggressive, venturing deeper into country that is normally un-used by the ranch. Manager was very responsive to trespasses and loaned us a radio so we could report their locations and was very firm and fair in dealing with them. Overall, it was a good hunt.

Northern nm elk hunt
I have hunted this ranch in 2011 and 2012. This is a nice ranch with meadows and live creeks. Fairly remote but still not too far off the blacktop. Elk numbers are fair to good, and there are a few bigger bulls, although you do have to work to find them, as in all elk hunting. Food and lodging are average to good, but that was never my focus, only the elk. The only downside to this ranch is a consistent turnover of management, but it doesn't seem to effect the accomodations or the quality of the elk. Overall a good value for money when compared to other similar private land hunts. They seem to be improving every year.

great hunt
First elk hunt! I had a great time on the ranch for my first elk hunt. we saw wildlife everyday and really enjoyed exploring the ranch. I was able to shoot a bull on the 4th day of my hunt. Be prepared to do allot of scouting the ranch is very large and tough to hunt.

Elk hunt
My hunting party of 4 to 6 hunters, has hunted the Stanley Ranch, twelve of the past thirteen years. As hunting goes, we've had good and not so good years.there are years we got 6 of 6 bulls, and once only 2 of 6. But the hunting experience, not the shooting experience is what we come back for every year. The ranch is grand, massive, and challenging. The Elk are there if you hunt for them. We have seen and taken bulls in the 300 class size. We have seen in the last two years, with the states help, fewer poachers and more Elk. Because I brought a new hunter last year and focused on helping him bag his first Elk, I was the only one in our group not to take a bull. And that's okay, we are well above the national average. We enjoyed being the first guests in the newly renovated Mountain Lodge. First Class accommodations, and great country cooking. The staff went way beyond expectations in assisting us with our harvested animals. We have already booked for the 2013 season, and can hardly wait to get back on the ranch.

Elk Hunt
I have hunted on this particular ranch for the 2011 and 2012 hunting seasons. I have been fortunate to take one bull elk from this ranch over the last two seasons. Although I didn't kill a trophy elk in either season, I have to say that I was provided with several close encounters and opportunities. This ranch provides a terrain which requires you to be in shape, but not as bad as some others. This ranch provides a good hunting environment that has me coming back for another season of elk hunting. The elk are there if the hunter is willing to work for the opportunities and stay committed. The lodging is good and the food is as well. Once they have a steady ranch manager in place that is able to manage the property, this ranch should become a place that you will want to come back to every year.
