Great Antelope Hunt
Just returned from a great antelope hunt with Butte Creek Outfitters. We hunted a mixture of public and private land and both hunters in my group shot above average bucks with nice curls / prongs. We saw about a thousand antelope during the hunt and harvested excellent animals. The guide more than met my expectations. He was fully knowledgable and has been a long term employee of the outfit. The hunt was scheduled for 3 days but we tagged out in one day. The remainder of the scheduled hunt was then used for touring Yellowstone and the Cody region. Just because you tag out doesnt mean your trip is over. The famous Butte Creek hospitality lasts for your full alloted time. Meals and accomodations at the lodge were fantastic as always.

mule deer
the personal attention was outstanding. Ron,Theresa make you feel very welcome from the time you arrive at the ranch the night before the hunt. the guides are very knowlegeable and it is very obvious their goal is the same as yours, to get you on a quality animal. the camp life is very comfortable and you are never wanting for a good meal. after killing my first 4x4 muley, i made reservations to return for next years hunt and bring both of my sons to share this great experience with me. I will continue to recommend butte creek to all. you will have to get in before me.i will be there.

Outstanding Outfitter!
Can't say enough good things about Butte Creek Outfitters! The camp is immaculate, the hunt was fantastic and the guides are hardworking and knowledgeable. Camp is not overcrowded with a lot of hunters. They only take 5 - 6 hunters per week. Sleeping accommodations is 2 ppl per tent with stove, hot shower in camp and excellent hunting!

Reviewer Comments: After going on an elk / mule deer hunt in 2003 with Butte Creek Outfitters, I didnt think that my experience then could be topped. Well, I was wrong. I just returned from my second wilderness hunt into the Thorofare region of Wyoming with Ron and his Butte Creek crew. This was in fact the hunt of a lifetime. It began snowing shortly before we started our 7 hour pack / ride into camp. By the time it stopped coming down there was 18 inches on the ground. The snow apparently made the game decide to move because from that point on it was an elk and deer smorgasbord. They were literaly everywhere. By the end of the week when the shooting stopped there were seven 6 point or better bull elk and six 4 x 4 or better mule deer on the ground. The elk ranged in size from a very respectable 6 x 5 to my huge and heavy 9 x 5 non typical. This elk had at least 3 of its points broken off and camp scored at approximately 360 SCI points. Had it not been for the broken off points the elk would have been approximately 402 inches!!! Two of the other bulls killed were in the 325 inch class as well. Needless to say the elk hunting was exceptional. All of the deer taken had 21 - 23 inch spreads and were nice and tall. Bigger deer were seen with some of them being shot at and missed. It was not uncommon to see over 200 deer a day. In additon to the great hunting, one of the best reasons to use Butte Creek as your outfitter is the crew that Ron has. Everyone is a multiple year employee and they are very dedicated to making sure that everything goes right for each and every hunter. Ron, the owner, is also always in camp. You never have to worry that someone is off the program and any issues that you may have are quickly addressed. The food with Butte Creek is always outstanding and very plentiful. This year was no exception. If you are considering a wilderness hunt Butte Creek Outfitters should be on your list. If you want additional information feel free to contact me.

Reviewer Comments: This is my second trip with Butte Creek. (See previous review)I had taken a wilderness elk hunt in 2003 with this outfit and was so impressed I returned in 2005 for their wilderness trophy mule deer hunt along Hardpan Creek. All hunters in this camp killed a respectable deer in 2005 except one. That hunter had two opportunities but failed to connect. During my week two very large heavy horned deer were killed. An 180 inch non typical and the 203 inch 8X7 non typical that I killed. Large non typical racks are common in this camp. Additionally, during my hunt a 30 inch wide buck was missed and 2 others were seen but shots didnt present themselves. This trip is a 7 day pack in hunt 12 miles into the wilderness. All horses and mules are excellent stock and very steady. All sddles and other equipment are excellent. The cook has 50 years experience and everything is made from scratch, including the famous Butte Creek sticky buns. I could type all day about the reasons why this outfitter and this camp are top notch but I wont. If you want additional info please contact me directly. If you book a hunt with Butte Creek you wont be disapointed!

Reviewer Comments: this was my first elk hunt.I have nothing to compare to.I think they hunt hard and feed you better than you eat at home.too many grizz. for me.take a pistol a big pistol with you.I think you should see more elk than grizzaaaaa on a elk hunt.I will tell you that I will never forget this hunt.they gave me the 500 bucks back without asking.if you kill a elk here you have earned it.great country good people.you make it back out, you won't be scared of anything.2 out of 5 killed the week I was there a 3x3 and a 5x5

Reviewer Comments: What a great elk hunt in the Thoroughfare region of Wyoming.10 hunters, 9 days, 8 Bulls!!! Five 6x6,One 5x5, and Two 5x4. One hunter missed a 6x6, and only one hunter did not get a shot at a 5x5 Bull!!! He got a $500.00 refund!!! I shot a nice 6x6 on the third evening of a six day hunt. Great people, great food, and a great location!!! Ron was in camp all week. All guides worked very hard to get everyone a bull. Be ready to ride a horse 7 hours into camp and shoot out to 300 yards.

Reviewer Comments: I researched elk outfitters for 5 months and checked into over 100 outfitters. Butte Creek came out on top. I certainly wasn't disapointed. The food was outstanding and there was 3rd and 4th helpings if you wanted to eat that much. The guides were all very experienced with most having several years of experience guiding in the area. The camp is very well run. All employees do their share of work and everyone was always happy and in a good mood. This made camp life enjoyable. I only saw one elk but it just happened to be a very nice 6x6 so I shot him on the 2nd morning. Didnt see any elk after that since I wasnt hunting. Out of 5 hunters three 6x6s and one very large 5x5 were killed. The 5th hunter turned down a 5x5 and missed another large 6x6. Several very large 6x6s were seen during my week but none were taken. Most everyday the hunters were either into elk or hearing bugles. My brother stopped counting how many elk he saw after the second day because it was becoming a pain to keep track of all of them. This was a wilderness pack in hunt so if you cant handle a 24 mile horse ride to get to camp, go some where else. If you think you can handle it, stop looking and call Butte Creek.

New Mexico Hunting Information
New Mexico is one of the top destinations for trophy Elk and Antelope hunting. Draw odds can be tough depending on the unit but landowner tags are also available for those who don't draw. Mule Deer are plentiful but generally of average size. Only a couple of units and reservations consistently produce big muleys.
Oregon Hunting Information
Oregon is not known to be a trophy big game producing state. That said they do have good quantities of animals such as Elk.
Utah Hunting Information
Utah has recently been outstanding for trophy elk, but the best tags take many years to draw. Utah does have conservation tags available for purchase that allow hunters to bypass the drawing. Given the high demand for these premium tags prices can be high. In the past Utah has been a top trophy mule deer state but recently only a handful of units consistently produce B&C caliber deer.
