Low times at High North
A five day hunt during which our stay was prolonged by weather for an additional day-left at camp with no means of communication with the outside world of any type other than smoke signal,so that you couldnt leave the spartan accomodations for fear the plane would return in your absence. A total of one caribou was seen by our six man group, we found out that the previous year's hunts were canceled due to lack of caribou naturally after arriving in camp. The one caribou harvested had the backstrap confiscated by the guides in the butchering process leaving behind enough hair on the meat to choke a herd of cats. Dont make the mistake I did.

Reviewer Comments: Early season hunt so I was suprised at quantitie of animals. There was a constant flow of small herds and easily filled our tags.Fishing (specs, Char, Lakers)was outstanding.Food and accomodations were well above average. Plenty of room in our heated cabin, oil heat, electric lights, hot shower if required.Meals were varied and they accomodate personal taste if possible(Char Sushi,Caribou Filet wrapped in bacon, large breakfasts).Staff made the trip, seemed like we were hunting with buddies who just happened to like packing meat and washing dishes.Overall would highly recommend High North and will make a retun trip

Reviewer Comments: The migration had not started yet in our area so we had to work much harder for our animals, but we did and thanks to the knowledge and determination of my guide we succeeded in harvesting two fine animals--above average to excellent. The camp, food, and atmosphere were all outstanding and I had a great time despite there not being a constant stream of caribou to check. In other words, they do what it takes, even if what it takes is much more or harder than usual.

Reviewer Comments: The overall hunt went over smoothly from our drive and stay in Montreal to leaving with a large quantity of meat that was well prepared and looked after. We lucked out on the migration and weather. Northern lights charmed us at night and shore lunches kept us full during the day. I actually had a sleep on a sand beach with socks off, pants rolled up and shirt off.The first few days had us surrounded by caribou on the move and the rest of the week was spent hunting and glassing for large bulls. During the day we fished and caught Lake Trout ( over 40lbs ), Artic Char and Speckled Trout. We took lots of film and video and enjoyed some of our hunts in camp in the evenings with a camp TV. Can't say enough good things about our hunt.

Reviewer Comments: I have never been to a camp where every single one of the staff was a complement to the sport of hunting and where they all went out of their way to make you feel at home. Further more my guide was relentless in finding the best animals. The food was better than should be allowed in a hunting camp. Every night I ate more than my fill of excellent food. All of the cabins had sufficient room for four grown men and enough space to dry out our gear each night. The camp is positioned perfectly to watch the Northern Lights dance for GOD over the lake. I would highly recommend High North Outfitters for anyone going caribou hunting.

Reviewer Comments: Given the remote location of the hunt the camp was rustic but more than comfortable. The food was plentiful and appetizing but not fancy. The fishing was unreal. Caribou were overabundant initially then we had to hunt the last part of the week...the best of all worlds. The prearranged air transport was smooth, efficient and went without a hitch. There were some seasoned guides(like mine) and some learning(as for others in our group). We were able to 'pitch in' and help with the 'chores'. This made us feel more a part of the hunt because we are use to doing for ourselves. Hot shower was available. Evening chats and videos from the day made for very pleasant camp time. Sleep cabins were warm, dry and roomy. Clothes dried quickly with the oil heat. Generator provided light until bedtime. The outfitters recommendations withrespect to fishing equipment and firearms selection is worth listening to.

Reviewer Comments: This was my first guided hunt. We were very impressed with High North. Everything was up to expectation. The guides, food, accommodations, hunting and fishing were excellent. My Dad was 73 at the time, I was 35, and together we had a blast out on the tundra. If I ever go for Quebec caribou again, it will be with High North Outfitting.
