Below average hunting
I have been to this outfitter several times. The accommodations are nice and clean. The dinners are very good. Lunches are average but no big deal. Quail hunting was fun. The quail are there due to being brought in by the guide and stattigically placed around the quail hunting area. . If you are interested in having a real shot at harvesting a nice mature buck this is not the place for you. I would say you realistically have less than a 20% chance at harvesting a nice mature buck based on what I have seen harvested during my trips.
Outfitter Response: Mr.Copses has hunted with us numerous times. until this yr. I believe that he was completely satisfied. I base this on the fact he returned to hunt. I suspect that his poor review is the result of him shooting an immature buck on the first morning and receiving a fine. Guiding deer hunts can be a real challenge. We often risk alienating some clients in an effort to protect the young deer. I'm sorry for the situation that Peter was in however rules are rules. Bruised egos often lead to reviews like this one. I'm sorry that it happens.

I have been going back every year since 2008. True Southern Hospitality. One could not ask to be treated any finer, from the cooks, guides and the owners.

Excellent
This was the second year my brother and I hunted at Pa-Ko. I killed two large bucks and saw deer every day. Jay Paul, Rita and the staff are wonderful. Real southern hospitality. Real good southern cooking. Great hunting. I highly recommend Pa-Ko and will definitely be returning.

PA-KO Plantation Outfitter experience was the greatest. This was my first Outfitter hunt. The food and lodging was great. The People there make you feel like you are part of one big happy family. They were really great. I was able to harvest my first Wild Hog also.

Before I booked a trip in Alabama, I thought about what would constitute an ideal hunt: 1) It would be in pristine rolling hardwoods with plentiful masts, and not in timber company cutover pines 2) It would be at least partly self-guided in that I would have the opportunity to move or locate portable stands within a given hunting area 3) It would hold a very generous amount of whitetailed deer, hogs, turkey and other game 4) It would have planted food plots for a healthier sized herd 5) The camp or lodge would be comfortable and organized without a lot of immature idiocy on the part of other hunters or owners 5) Bowhunting would be encouraged and the management would understand the special challenges of bowhunting. 6) It would allow solitude hunting without someone else on top of my area. 7) The hunting sites would be unpressured and not overhunted. 8) The dining room food would be good and ready on time. 9) The owner would assist with tracking and dressing game if needed. After some research, I decided to give Pa-Ko Plantation a try. On two hunts, I have found that Pa-Ko offers all of these aspects. It is as close to the ideal hunting environment as I could expect. The owners and workers do a great job to deliver a premier hunting experience. On both bowhunts at Pa-Ko, I had multiple shots at whitetailed deer. Keep in mind that weather is a important factor for deer in Alabama. On some high barometric pressure days, seeing deer at Pa-Ko is much harder than on overcast or front-dominated days. This is not unique to Pa-Ko: it is the rule in Alabama. These deer tend to be very skiddish of blowing, moving foliage. I do keep this in mind with my expectations on hunts at Pa-Ko. On bright, windy, bluebird days, it may pay to sit in the stand all day to increase the odds. However a skilled bowhunter at Pa-Ko should get an ethical shot at a mature whitetail on a three day hunt with decent weather. Pa-Ko Plantation is highly recommended for someone seeking a great hunting experience in a gentleman's environment.

PA-KO Plantation
PA-KO Plantation is the only place one should consider when looking for the Consummate Hunting Lodge. J. Paul and Rita Taylor are the premier outdoor adventure hosts for an individual or corporate group experience. Mature Deer, Quail, Hogs and Turkey inhabit the 6,000 acres where Pa-KO resides in southeast, Midway, AL. J. Paul’s grandfather purchased this gorgeous outdoor paradise over 60 years ago. Growing up around outdoor enthusiasts, J Paul knows what a real outdoorsman is looking for. When one experiences PA-KO, one will notice how much effort has been exerted by J. Paul and his team and their investment in working and preparing the land. Over 80 shooting houses, tree stands, immaculate food plots and wooded hunting areas gets your adrenalin pumping for an unbelievable day of hunting. J Paul and Rita are hands on owner operators when it comes to their guests. Before the wonderful southern style dinners, J. Paul and Rita, join their guests in the lodge for conversation. This is when you will notice they are truly interested in the guests’ lives. Stories continue to flow as the group sits around the nightly campfire, before retiring to the well maintained cottages. J. Paul’s guides and cooks are some of the best and experienced crew I have been around. Again, they are truly there to enhance your hunting pleasure. I have been to PA-KO multiple times. Have experienced adventurous quail hunts. Recently I took up deer hunting. Went in December and returned in January. Saw many nice bucks and does. Enjoyed bring down a nice 8 point. J. Paul and Rita coordinated a corporate rafting trip as an incentive team building trip for fellow workers. They will customize your trip to satisfy your needs. No “cookie cutter” adventures. I plan to return to PA-KO this spring to bag a gobbler. Go to www.pa-ko.com to see what PA-KO has to offer! You will not be disappointed. 877-539-5699 lroberts@pa-ko.com

Deer Hunt
Second Alabama deer hunt this season and without hesitation PA-KO plantation provide the best experience. J Paul took great care in placing all his customers in an area where the chance of seeing a shooter buck was high. In the 2 1/2 days I lost count of the number of deer I had in front and could from the stands JP put me into. Cabins were clean and well maintained..lodge has every thing you could ask for and all aspects service was great. Rita and JP truly make you feel like family. See you again next season. PS I did knock down a 8PT buck.

Let me start by telling you that I hunted under a full moon, warmer temperatures though out my hunting period. Hunting at PA-Ko Plantation meets my expectation to the highest level. Jay Paul is a very knowledgeable guide with some of the best deer savvy knowledge that you would expect while going on a guided hunt. Jay understands deer movement and uses a stand that is best suited to the current weather / wind condition. The staff at PA-KO brings a warm family atmosphere and is very willing to accommodate the hunter needs and request. I shot a really nice wide mature buck on Saturday night but from the beginning of the hunt saw deer everything time out. I highly recommend planning a hunting trip at PA-KO Plantation, you will not be disappointed.

Great Southern Hunt!
Pa-Ko Plantation is a great choice for anyone looking to escape the Northern winter and enjoy a comfortable Southern hunt. You're not going to see big Northern bucks, but that should be obviously by the location. What you will see are a good number of solid Southern bucks with great character (you probably have a higher percentage of shooting a drop-tine at Pa-Ko than most places). You will spend half your hunt overlooking food-plots, and the other half in the woods trying to catch a buck working a scrape-line, chasing a doe, etc... The food-plot hunts seem to be more successful. Antler-wise, you have a better-than average chance of seeing a 120" eight or better, and an outside chance of seeing something 140"+. The camp is very comfortable and well-kept with plenty to do during down time.
note: The following reviews predate the numeric rating system and are not included in this outfitter's overall rating.
Iowa Hunting Information
Iowa is one of the best Midwestern states for monster whitetail bucks. Non-residents must apply for a tag in their annual drawing. Archery tags are the most sought after and depending on what units you apply for generally take 2-4 years to draw.
Colorado Hunting Information
Colorado is one of the best western states for trophy mule deer hunting and has the largest population of elk in the west.
New Mexico Hunting Information
New Mexico is one of the top destinations for trophy Elk and Antelope hunting. Draw odds can be tough depending on the unit but landowner tags are also available for those who don't draw. Mule Deer are plentiful but generally of average size. Only a couple of units and reservations consistently produce big muleys.
