Savage Encounters
Chad Over Booked and Guides were not good at all. Most of the Mounts were found in the woods. Not killed by Chad and his Guides like they lead you to believe. I Would Not Recommend Savage Encounters

Reviewer Comments: My guide only had two days to scout my hunt area. The cook was not happy. My guide did cook a good lunch for me in the bush. Overall not a positive experience. I have been on many guided trips and this is the worst I have ever been treated.

Reviewer Comments: We had booked this hunt a year previous, intending to bring our young sons as they had advertised contained wild boar and sheep hunts in addition to the deer hunts. In addition , the advertisement was that we would see enough animals to have a selective opportunity at a decent buck. As circumstances do change sometimes, we did not end up taking the boys along. We were REALLY looking forward to our adult only vacation. From the start this hunt was a disaster. The day we arrived we were greeted with "What are you doing here, you're not supposed to be here till next week." It was not until we produced documentation proving we were in the right that they accepted our existance in camp. Even then we were treated as though it was our fault we were even there. The guide we were given had even been told that we had shown up early. We had chosen Alberta because we wished to spot and stalk, and/or still hunt rather than sit on stand over bait in another province. We had brought our own pop-up blinds to give us flexibility, and thank goodness we did because that is all we used. We were put on stands overlooking cut lines in small timber blocks in a far from remote area. We were assured that "a big deer had been seen in the area." I was put on a cut line near the local dump. It stunk. When my husband questioned the locality I was moved to a line looking down upon an intersection on a main highway a mere 600 yards away. Safe. Not. In all I spent 9 sessions on stand never seeing a deer. My husband saw all of 4 deer in his sets, two of which were very small bucks. After my husband complained to Chad that we had actually paid for a combination MULE DEER/whitetail hunt we were taken glassing an area that looked to be good muley habitat. This was only after our guide got permission from the outfitter, Chad to go there after he and his client had left. You can guess the results. In the week we were there 8 hunters took a grand sum of 3 deer. One average mule deer which was shot while standing on a road, and a reasonable whitetail (135) by road hunting. The only deer shot from one of their prepared stands was a small 8 point. The owner, Chad managed to get away to the property adjoining camp and shoot a better buck than any of the clients took that week. It was squirreled away in the shed quietly. All in all it was a waste of our time and secondarily our money. It appeared to us that most of our stand sights were not pre-scouted. Others got the impression that their stands had been well used in previous weeks. What was advertised was no where near what we or any of the hunters there experienced. We were told over and over "Oh, the deer just aren't moving." This was in the week of 3 different weather patterns, including -20 for 2 days in the middle of the rut. The deer taken had swollen necks and a couple of hunters had actually seen a buck chasing does. We got the impression that the area is not heavily populated with deer and as witnessed by all in camp there was a lot of local hunting pressure. We saw more bucks in the first hour driving home south of the hunting area than we saw in a whole weeks hunting. A great website, don't get fooled by it. Please feel free to contact us for more details is you so desire. Tanya and John Vanden Dungen

Reviewer Comments: Chad has a good camp. He and his guides have hunted this country for many years and know the patterns and habits of the game species they hunt. Unfortunately, the weather was unseasonably warm the week of my hunt. It was also full moon. In spite of these handicaps I saw quite a bit of game including 4 nice mature bull elk which could have been harvested if I had a tag. Thanks to the perseverance of my guide Stacy I harvested a nice mature mule deer on the last morning of my hunt. I was very pleased with the hunt and plan to hunt again with Chad and Stacy.

Reviewer Comments: This was my first ever big game hunt in Canada. I have hunted whitetail in the midwest for several years. Although this was my first guided hunt for a bear, it was not my first guided hunt. For nearly 10 years I have hired guides throughout the US for duck and goose hunting. Even though it is not big game, the emphasis is placed highly on the guide service. Mother nature plays an important factor in a successful hunt and a good guide service is there to balance the playing field. I interviewed 4 different guide services before selecting Chad and Savage Encounters. I had taken up archery in December of 2002 and decided that in late May '03 I would try and take a black bear. The guides, knowing this was my first archery hunt, gave me great advice, but did not treat me like a novice hunter. The camp layout and facilities were first class, especially our cook Rebecca. Every day I had bears enter my area which made for great entertainment. When I took my bear on the second evening of the hunt I could hardly contain my excitement and the guides of Savage Encounters were just as excited for me. The guides worked extremely hard to make sure that everyone in camp was able to take at least one bear. Two of the gentlemen I met in camp had hunted with another outfitter the previous year and could not get over the difference in professionalism and accomodations compared to the year earlier. I would recommend this operation to anyone who wants to enjoy a well run bear camp with terrific personnel and a great chance a taking a trophy black bear.

Reviewer Comments: Chad has a good operation. He and his guides are very knowledgeable and understand the habits and patterns of the game in their hunt areas. Hunting with Chad and Stacy Powell was a great pleasure as they both worked very hard under the worst conditions to get me on game. With unseasonably warm weather and a full moon, we had to be very creative and patient. Soley because of Stacy's perseverance and fortitude we were able to stalk and kill a good buck on the last day of the hunt. I would recommend these guys to anybody and will hunt with them again in the future.

Reviewer Comments: I have been on 2 hunts with SEI and had a great time on both. Our first year, my husband hunted elk/mule deer and I hunted mule deer only. We had a great time HUNTING. We experienced terrific terrain, wonderful company and great "hard" hunting. I was unsuccessful that year but my husband harvested a nice Elk on our last day. Our guides, including Chad gave 110% the entire time. Our second hunt was awesome! I shot a really nice moose and mule deer, while my husband was unsuccessful(due mostly to weather)..that is why they call it hunting. It's not shooting. The joy and excitement of the hunt is not knowing and working hard to find your trophy. If it were all guaranteed, we would all have the cover of Trophy Hunter magazine. SEI does a GREAT JOB! We have great memories to relive and new friends like Chad and our guide Shawn to relive them with.

Reviewer Comments: Great deal on a hunt, I have hunted most of the provinces for whitetail and wanted a mule deer. I went to savage encounters for a mulie whitetail combo. on the second day of my hunt i scored on a 150 class whitetail, I passed up three smaller bucks prior to this [120- 130 class]the weather got warm but we still managed to see some mulie bucks.some were too far,too small, or no shot was offered.I saw two shooters and decided to pass for a bigger one and got nothing.a few of the bucks that offered no shot or were too far were huge and we waited for one of those. Great camp, great price, I will be going again!

Alberta Hunting Information
Alberta is a large, diverse province with rolling prairies, farmland, river bottoms, Boreal forests, and large expanses of the northern Rocky Mountains. Many species of big game, waterfowl, upland game and predators inhabit Alberta. Long known for monster whitetails, Alberta also is home to big mule deer, pronghorn antelope, elk, black bear, cougar, Canada moose, and bighorn sheep. In fact, 7 of the 10 largest bighorn sheep in Boone and Crockett record book are from Alberta. In addition to big game, Alberta offers some top notch bird hunting. Serious waterfowlers know about the large flocks of ducks and geese that call Alberta home or migrate through.
Iowa Hunting Information
Iowa is one of the best Midwestern states for monster whitetail bucks. Non-residents must apply for a tag in their annual drawing. Archery tags are the most sought after and depending on what units you apply for generally take 2-4 years to draw.
Arizona Hunting Information
Arizona has lots of trophy big game but is probably best known for its trophy elk and mule deer. This partially due to the limited number of tags available.
