Reviewer Comments: I have submitted a couple of entries on Anticosti Island, and I have actually been contacted a few people here for advise..Some have called me back after going and did not see the game I'm talking about..look, timing is everything, go in late November like I have mentioned..They have cheaper hunts in Sept an Oct..but Nov an Dec are the time to go..This year we had 9 hunters go hunting for a 4 day hunt..We are allowed 2 deer a piece..We killed 18 bucks in 2 days..I took my 12 year old son who slammed his first racker, 19 inch spread 9 point..We got one 11 point with 2 drop tines...i ended up with 2 decent 8 points..I averaged seeing over 100 deer a day in which 25-30 % were bucks.. The snow makes the difference to the hunting..One guy we took with us always went In Oct...he's been there for 6 years..he went with us in late Nov..to the same camp and he just couldn't believe it..For pictures of this hunt go to huntingchat.net look in the deer section of the forum..there are 3-4 post started on this..One of the best post is entitled.."Hard to describe in words'

Reviewer Comments: I've been to Anticosti for about 10 straight years..I've pretty much seen it all up there..5-6 years ago you would litterally see tons of deer per day..They had a tremendous winter kill 3-4 years ago which really hurt the deer herd. It's on the rebound, each year seeing more an more deer. It's not like what it was, but it's getting there quickly..We had 8 hunters in our group..we killed 14 bucks and 2 doe..we actually should have killed all bucks, but a couple guys went crazy with the trigger the first morning not knowing what to expect. The first five years i went to Anticosti was in the Oct. hunt...seems like you see more deer in Oct. but not big bucks..the last 5 years was in late Nov. we see big bucks..there in full rut and move all day..The island is like out of some dream movie, just mystical, remote, quiet, and peaceful..You don't have to be some pro hunter to go up there an kill deer...you'll get your 2. Your allowed 2 deer...buck or doe..I have found the more years you go to Anticosti the easier it is..the island is very thick, and the first time hunting can be frustrating, after the first year or 2 you'll figure out things, and the guides will take you to your favorite spots..If i didn't know a thing about Anticosti and was looking into going, i would go in late nov..they offer some cheaper packages in sept and oct...but it's worth the money to hunt in snow..

Reviewer Comments: Hello: After reading about SEPAQ Anticosti for many years I decided to finally go. I hunted third week of October 2004 season. The operation is run by the Quebec govt. and they have it down pretty good. What they failed to mention in the brochures is that two years ago there was a massive winter die off and the herd is still recovering. They admit to losing 40,000 deer. I hunted the LAC Martin sector and there were 8 hunters total in our cabin. Four hunters from Canada and four hunters from the U.S. A great time was had by all and we enjoyed some wonderful comraderie. The hunting was weak, to say the least. I saw 18 deer in four days and all except one were does. The buck was young and I elected to pass. I took a meat doe and passed on the rest. The four American hunters score was as follows: one decent eight pointer and six does. The Canadian gentleman took one small buck and four does. We hunted very hard and covered a lot of territory but the bigger bucks were not to be found. We heard later that the kill all over the Island has been down since this last winter kill of two years ago. We were told by the locals that last year was much worse. The hunting is basically conducted by walking trails (and you have no choice but to walk the trails because the woods are so thick you cannot move or see more than a few yards)until you come to the swamps that are spread around the Lac Martin sector. The swamps are where most of our groups action happened. In the Lac Martin sector there are perhaps a dozen stands scattered around and I am told that most of the sectors on the island have no stands. The trails do have deer near them but it is extremely hard to stalk on these trails because of mud, gravel, and noise. If you hunt hard and cover some area you will see deer, but you are not going to see the heards you hear about. In November the deer actually migrate to the shore areas to eat kelp that washes up on the beaches and then you will see the huge herds you read about. If you hunt Anticosti make sure you know how to use a map and compass and a GPS. You must get off the trails to really have a sucessful hunt and some of the swamps are huge and very easy to get turned around in. There are a few other things to make your trip to the Island a little more enjoyable and if anyone out there is going to the Island for their first trip I will be happy to share them. My email is listed at the end here. It is still a unique hunt in a special place and the hunting should pick up in the next two seasons. If you go, good luck!

Reviewer Comments: I have hunted in many areas for deer and anticosti is second to none. Very remote, it seems like your the only one hunting on the island. The guides are not right in your face telling you how to hunt. They let you do your thing, however, they are helpful in putting you in areas where there are deer. Its your job to find the deer. I have hunted on the island for five years now, and it seems to keep getting better. I live in Maine, and have hunted Pennsylvania for over 10 years. I am just tired of trying to find a place to hunt in Pa. Too many posted signs. If your looking for a real hunt, a do it yourself hunt, try Anticosti. Its Paradise.

Reviewer Comments: Vaureal Camp, 11/22-11/27, 2002. 18 inches of snow had fallen two days before we got there and the deer had been pushed towards the coast, where the Vaureal Sector is located. Most of the 12 hunters saw 200-250 deer a day. But if you are looking for antlers with points, get off the trails. 12 hunters, 19 bucks and 5 does (for the meat). Previous week was the same count. Take a camera, this is a combination vacation.hunting trip. No huge racks but lots of 8,9,10 pointers (but smaller racks than on the mainland)

Reviewer Comments: Sepaq is run by the Quebec Provincial Government. The guides and housekeeping staff are professional and well organized. The camp and equipment was very well maintained, a Typical day is as follows: 6 AM the guides eat 6:30 AM Hunters are served a full breakfast while the hunters are eating their breakfast the guides are outside warming up the GMC 4WD King Cab Truck. 7 AM Head for your hunting area which rotates daily. 1 hunter is assigned a 10 sq mile area. Hunter is equipt with topo map. The guide two hunter ration is 4 hunters / guide / truck. The guide spends one day with each hunter if they desire NOON: Choice of bagging a lunch or having the guide pick you up and serve a hot lunch in an outpost camp 6-6:30: Guide picks up hunter and you return to camp. 7PM Snack is served in the lounge area of the cabin 8PM Hunters eat a 7 course meal expertly prepared by a Chef While the hunters are eating and talking about the days hunt the guides are skinning the deer shot that day 9:30 and after turn in to a made up bed with fresh linen that is changed daily. The only thing negative is if you are planning on shooting a B&C buck you will not find one on Anticosti Island. But the hunt / Vacation is worth every penny
