Big Game

In October I called and spoke with the owner of South Carolina trophy Hunters, Mark Sr. i advised Mark that I wanted to try and come there in December. Mark was very personable on the phone and treated me with the up most respect. I told Mark that I wanted to bring my son down to his management property for the opportunity to harvest a nice mature buck for the season. Mark was very upfront and told me due to the weather and the late season hunts in December that it would be tough. I advised Mark that I completely understood and it was more to me then that for my 11 year old son. I have hunted management property for over 16 years and understand that hunting is hunting and never guaranteed. When we arrived in December for our hunt we arrived at the property and the first thing I noticed was the nice lodge. Mark Sr. and his daughter came out and met me and my son and made us feel right at home. They took us over to meet the other hunters which eased the uncomfortable feeling for me and my son. The lodge was very clean with a great hunter setup. We had our own room and everything was provided for us. The next morning we were picked up by Kevin and Mark Jr. The sons of Mark Sr. Mark Jr. and Kevin spoke to my son and said they would do everything possible to try and get him on a deer. They talked with us all the way to the stand and was very knowledgeable but also friendly. The first morning we seen deer to include a nice genetic 1.5 year old 4 point about 20 yards from stand. My son was able to age the deer and learn that he was a deer that needed to be passed up for him to reach his maximum potential. This to me is what hunting is about, not just harvesting deer. The next day my son was taken by Mark Jr. Kevin and Mike on a hog hunt that my son will never forget. My son was able to harvest his first ever wild hog and to see how excited it made not only my son, but Mark Jr., Kevin and Mike was absolutely awesome. This was not something I paid for this was just them wanting to see my son succeed but to also leave there with an experience he will never forget. During this trip I made several new hunting buddies that i talk to on a regular basis now and we have already scheduled our hunt with SC Trophy Hunters for next year. These are great guys who run this camp and they are down to earth and if you are not happy with them then it bothers them just as much as it does you. They will do whatever it takes to make it right. I would never hesitate about booking a hunt with these guys and it will be an experience you will never forget.

Pass this one up

I went to South Carolina Trophy Outfitters, Sept 17th through the 22nd. Saw one doe which I killed. Didn't see a single pig. No bucks. They advertise 3 bucks, 4 hogs and a doe. Yea, right. They advertise a campfire every night, not a one. No seafood feast. It is basically a hunter mill. Move em in and move em out. A numbers game. The staff are unsociable. I do not recommend this place at all. The stands are hunted every day by someone. They don't play the wind or thermals. Amatuer hour. Two meals a day, and not good ones either. The guide drops you off via vehicle to your stand and comes back four hours or so later.Metal chairs in metal stands = noise. Delapidated stands, camo netting dry rotted. Bait piles consisted of maybe a dozen ears of corn and a couple of handfuls of loose corn if your lucky. The two best days of my hunt were the day I got there and the day I left.

AWESOME

This place is awesome. For the last 15 years I've gone on 2 paid hunts a yearand nothing compares. The lodge is clean and comfortable. The guides are great. They know the area and what the animals are doing. The food is really good and there is tons of it. Me and my cousin went on a velvet hunt. My cousin missed a 10 and 20 minutes later shot a nice 8 from the same stand. I got a good 10 on the first morning. We both continued to hunt and seen allot more deer. I seen one group of bucks that had 3 bucks in the 130's and a 10 well into the 140's.Unfortunately they we're out of my comfortable range. We also killed 2 boar hog's weighing over 200 lbs each. Bottom line we're going back. This place is definitely worth the money.

Dont waste your money

I booked a three day hunt with SC Trophy Hunters after meeting them in a show in Springfield, MA. I was told they had over 8500 acres of leased land, 176 treestands and you could shoot 3 bucks 6 PT or better, 1 doe and 3 hogs during your stay. My brother In Law lives in SC about two hours away. He went to the lodge and was talked into buying a membership for the year, along with his wife for $3700. That membership alledgedly gave him unlimited access to the property. After 20 plus trips there he saw one buck (a one PT)which is not something you can shoot, hunting from their stands. I went down Dec 6, 2013 with my two sons and it was a joke. They had already run 200 hunters through the place. They placed us in stands so close to each other that the only deer that did come out in front of my sons, they were both looking at it and it was a spike. Only one deer was sited and no hogs. The stands that we sat were littered with full urine bottles at the base of them and empty food wraps all over the ground, it looked like a city dump. Worst hunt I have ever been on. There were 3 hunters in camp before we arrived and they shot one doe in their 3.5 day hunt between the 3 of them. This outfitter is all about the money. We hunted over harvested fields that no deer were coming to and one of the guides even said "I can put you on fields but they've been harvested so it would be like watching dirt". Well we watched dirt because that's where they put us.

Utah Hunting Information

Utah has recently been outstanding for trophy elk, but the best tags take many years to draw. Utah does have conservation tags available for purchase that allow hunters to bypass the drawing. Given the high demand for these premium tags prices can be high. In the past Utah has been a top trophy mule deer state but recently only a handful of units consistently produce B&C caliber deer.
