Species Hunted: Spring 2007 - Black Bear

Game Quality: Good

Accommodation Quality: Acceptable semi-remote

Camp Condition: Acceptable

Food Quality: Terrible, unfiltered drinking

Guide Experience: Inexperienced

Other Personal Experience: n/a

Overall Impression: Worst hunt in 64 yrs.

Recommend: No! Absolutely no children..

Reviewer Comments: Food was eatable for the hungry, drinking water unfiltered from river, the kitchen sanitary questionable, and meal clean-up left to hunters. Hot shower was available. Our party of 4 saw 1 boar and 2 sows total for the week. Second party of 2 boys shot small sows. New guides, while helpful had no experience. Outfitter was constantly confrontational, argumentative and disrespectful to hunters. Outfitter informed us upon arrival that bow-blinds were not available for those of us signed up for bow-hunts. Guides were already in process of closing camp for the season. Switched to guns after 2 days of nothing. Last day of hunting w/gun I was placed on a nice bow blind setup with bait can barely 18 yrds away. Nice huh! Three of us are lifelong hunters and have in past hunted internationally. What a disappointment this trip was and a poor reflection on Saskatchewan outfitters....

Reviewer Comments: Hunted Spring Bear last week of season 2008. 5 of 6 in our group got bears. 4 were small sows which were the only bears they saw, and one 5'4" nice boar. Saw very few bears that week as a group. Owner was rude, confrontational, unprofessional, disrespectful, and drunk most of the time we were there. 2 of our group registered as bow hunters but when we got there he had no bow blinds set up and went on and on about how he doesn't like bow hunters. He got angry when we asked questions, treated us like children, and had us doing most of the work around the camp. His hired guides (with no experience)admitted that they were not baiting some of the stands that they were putting us at and we never saw bears at those. The owner said we were not good hunters and were probably scaring the bears. We went the last week of season and the focus seemed to be on taking down the stands and cleaning up the camp rather than getting us a quality bear. The most experienced hunter in our group never even saw a bear and the owner joked about putting clients that asked a lot of questions on "miracle blinds" where it would be a miracle if they saw anything. I am personally very happy with the large boar that I got, but I would never subject myself or anyone I know to another week there.

Overall Impression: Excellent

Reviewer Comments: Hunted spring Bear with bow in 2003- did not take a bear but saw plenty of bear up to 5ft. One large black shot that week-6ft. Everyone had opportunities.(3 out of 5 hunters killed one) Returned 2004- shot Pope&Young Black boar on 2nd night. Very large chocolate taken same night-everyone had chance for bear. (3 out of 4 hunters killed one). Camp is comfortable, plenty of food, hot shower. Guides work very hard to get you on best baits. Large area, no other hunters. Very careful not to over hunt. Great price.

Reviewer Comments: These guys are a blast! They want to show you a good time and kill a big bear.Three of us went and all killed nice bears.I saw 11 bears in 3 days shot an average bear.I probably should have held off,but my buddies killed their bears on the first and second day and were havin so much fun with Mark and Barry (the guides) that I could'nt wait to join them. This was a fall hunt so we got to goose and duck hunt and had good luck with both.We rode atv's through some wild country.never a dull moment!

Alberta Hunting Information

Alberta is a large, diverse province with rolling prairies, farmland, river bottoms, Boreal forests, and large expanses of the northern Rocky Mountains. Many species of big game, waterfowl, upland game and predators inhabit Alberta. Long known for monster whitetails, Alberta also is home to big mule deer, pronghorn antelope, elk, black bear, cougar, Canada moose, and bighorn sheep. In fact, 7 of the 10 largest bighorn sheep in Boone and Crockett record book are from Alberta. In addition to big game, Alberta offers some top notch bird hunting. Serious waterfowlers know about the large flocks of ducks and geese that call Alberta home or migrate through.
