Great hunt

This was a great hunt and a wonderful full service lodge to hunt with. The accomodations were excellent , the food was super ,and the hosts were as nice as any you will ever hunt with. Their operation was safety conscious, and geared to the needs of the hunter. Our group is going back in January.

Great hunting lodge

When you arrive at Watervalley Lodge in Gilbertown,Alabama you will feel like I'm gonna like this. From the friendly dogs to the owners and guides, you will fit right in.This was my fifth trip in as many years The best part of coming here in January is that it's right in the middle of the rut. When our season is over here,I wait a couple weeks and I'm right back in the middle of it again.Jake and Pia,the owners, will make you feel at home from the minute you get there.Safety is first and practiced every time you are in contact with your gun.The food is great and plenty of it.Great shooting range, care of your game, and all the other guests that you will hunt with and are friends with long after the hunt makes it an unforgetable trip.Oh yeah,my last trip I took 3 eight pointers,1 doe,and 2 hogs. All in 4 days, limited out.As any hunter knows,it is not always about the kill, but the experience you had while there.I highly recommend them to anybody looking to go on a group hunt or just by yourself.

Don't Worry; Be Happy!

The Laid-back atmosphere, comfortable surroundings(including the bed), the overall feeling of safety and the knowledgeable staff were enough to make us want to return; however it was the extra attention that Pia, Jake, John-Jacob, Gaddy, Ken, Red, and Johnny gave us that insured that we will return every year. This place is family friendly and like family, everyone looks out for one another and encourages one another. The return guests from previous years(some for 12 years in a row) proved to us that it wasn't just a show. We truly enjoyed our time at Water Valley Lodge and cannot wait to return. Remember, it is HUNTING not shooting and these guys made it fun and rewarding.

Poor outfitter overall

Dogs in dining hall, messing on floor. Kids all over, loud noise. Guides did not pick up from hunts as stated. Not enough guides to put hunters out on time. Food was store bought. Danish for breakfast, soup for lunch and whatever for for dinner! Will not return!

Reviewer Comments: This is a large hunting operation with great accomodations, logistics, and coordination. Good place for a group to relax and enjoy a rifle hunt. The Utleys are fantastic hosts and do a good job putting hunters in a place to see deer. This is not a one on one type hunt where they aim to get you in front of the biggest buck, its more of a vacation and chance to see some deer and enjoy southern hospitality. Chances are good at a few does for the freezer and smaller buck. If lucky you may get a crack at a real bruiser, one shot during week we attended.

Reviewer Comments: Water Valley Lodge is a top quality outfitter I have have been going for 6 years now and just got back from another successful and satisfing hunt there. They treat you like your at home I cant get myself to even look at other outfitters because now I developed a friendship with Jake and Pia over there. Their guides also are very organized and put you on stand and let you know what to expect they make you feel very comfortable. You will see deer and will have a oportunity to take deer. I take my customers there every year for the past 6 years and each time they ask me if they can come back next year. We usually are a average of 10 in our group and take several good bucks and always each get a doe if we chose to do so.

Reviewer Comments: Excellant accomadations and hunting. This is our 3rd trip to entertain some of our customers. I have to say it gets better each trip! We saw deer on each hunt even in bad weather conditions. We took our share of deer incuding my best 10 point ever.Jake, Pia, Steve and Eddie sure know how to take care of you in the kitchen and in the field hunting. The lodge just keeps getting better and I wished I could go more often!

Reviewer Comments: This is a first class opperation. From the time you drive up to the time you depart, this lodge is run safe, clean and very organized. The food was great, even if I did gain 5 lbs. while there. Great place for intertaining guest or just want to go out and get a trophy.

Game Quality: Great

Accommodation Quality: Good

Camp Condition: Good

Food Quality: Great

Guide Experience: Great

Other Personal Experience: Great

Overall Impression: Fantastic

Recommend: Absolutely!

Reviewer Comments: The atmosphere was very professional and comfortable. The accomodations were clean and nicer that I had hoped for. Safe, legal, and ethical hunting was practiced. The plots, shooting houses, and ladder stands were all in great condition. The amount of game was more than I anticipated to see. I was pleased to use the gun range which is the quality of a shooting club. Jake provided extra attention to my fathers needs and limitations, witch unfortunately come with age. This was a pleasant experience witch I look forward to again in the near future. Thank You Jake and Pia Utsey.

New Mexico Hunting Information

New Mexico is one of the top destinations for trophy Elk and Antelope hunting. Draw odds can be tough depending on the unit but landowner tags are also available for those who don't draw. Mule Deer are plentiful but generally of average size. Only a couple of units and reservations consistently produce big muleys.
