Reviewer Comments: I killed my elk opening morning with Louis or Baba as we call him and I had the best time with them and the rest of the crew. These fellas know everything about elk and elk hunting. I'm booked again for the 2004 season and this time I'm bringing my son. Thanks Lee and Baba for a most memorable hunt.

Reviewer Comments: I hunted with Lee and Baba on the Rio Costilla Park and was I impressed with the overall beauty of the ranch terrain. Spring time is cold and snow was still prevalent, but that didn't stop us from hunting. First evening out we called and heard several toms but only two appeared within 25 and 35 yards from set-up. I fired on the closest bird. I was so excited being the first turkey I killed and Baba was too busy pointing out the other bird who made a bee-line straight for us. I couldn't get the other bird, most due to my excitement of harvesting the first. I had an excellent time with both Lee and Baba. If you've ever wanted to meet to nicer guys, it's these two. They worked their butt's off to help me get a bird. I was satisfied with one bird and spend the rest of my time riding the mountains with them and watching the large herds of elk who live on the ranch. Give them call and tell them dirty harry told you so.

Reviewer Comments: Lee Vigil, president of the Rio Costilla Park organization offers excellent trophy elk hunting. The Park consists of approximately 82,000 acres of prime elk country. My hunt was about a week before the rut fired up and I still was within 80yds. of 7 bulls over 315. During my 5-day bow hunt I had 6 bulls within bow range, the largest was at 15yds. and would score about 340, but spooked when I drew. I've hunted elk for many years and I've never seen as many bulls this size or the numbers of elk in general. I also had a 190 class mulie within 30yds. which stood and watched me settle my pin behind his shoulder while he chewed on leaves. Give Lee a call or email before he's booked up for 2003. utecreekoutfitters@hotmail.com www.utecreekoutfitters.com

Reviewer Comments: I hunted with Lee the first morning and just at day break out came a nice 6x6 bull with his harem of 15 cows and some smaller bulls. The woods were singing with bugles from every corner of the meadow. To make a long story short, upon being winded, we ran like hell to an area Lee though the bull wold try to make an escape. Low and behold, Lee was right! I harvest a good 6x6 bull at 75 yards. He later scored 334 B & C. First morning of the hunt and I struck pay dirt. My complete story with pictures will be published in the Big Game Adventures Magazine this January. I would and have recommended this hunt. You need to book early as I belive they have the first two rifle hunts book well in advance. I'll be hunting with Lee and Baba again in 2004. My brother make another treip (his third) this 2002 season and harvested a nice 6x6 as well. They have an excellent operation and the Rio Costilla Park has done an excellent job of trophy management for elk and mule deer.

Reviewer Comments: I saw elk every day including the day before the hunt. There was some fresh snow and we spotted a herd feeding near camp. That night the elk moved through camp and bugled all night long. It was unbelievable. Opening morning we jumped a herd and I got off several rounds at a huge bull and missed. Next morning we jumped some elk again and I harvested a good 6x6 bull. My first bull. Lee, Baba and James know exactly what they are doing. I must have seen 250 elk the whole time I was there. I spend the rest of the time just watching elk through my binoculars, and hanging out and eating. This is an excellent hunting operation and I'm saving up my money to do a bow hunt.

Reviewer Comments: I hunted with Louis, (Baba) on a December hunt. There was boocoo snow so we tracted a herd the first day. There must have been 50 elk, but no big boys. Driving back to camp we jumped four large bulls, one exceptional 6x6. Ok, I missed. Next morning Baba headed towards an opening where he felt the bulls would be. Sure enough, they were there. The big bull and two others ran off and couldn't get a shot off at them but three others stayed and just watched. I nailed a good 6x5. When we got to the bull he was a lot bigger than I thought. Huge beams and brow tines, one broken sword. I'm happy. It's my first bull. I'm 68 years young and Happy as Hell. Those SOB's Lee and Kyle killed a big bull the same morning about a mile from camp in the alfalfa fields. Good guides. Hope to come back soon again. Doug Casias

Reviewer Comments: I've been hunting with Baba and Lee for over 10 years now. These guys grew up on the ranch and know every inch. They also know where the animals are, and it's obvious they spend a lot of time scouting for trophies. There's one big bull I've been after for several years that's still out there. I see him everytime I'm on the Rio, but he just keeps outsmarting us. I booked again for next year and he's going to be mine. Lots of big bulls on the Rio Costilla. The ranch is doing an excellent job of managing the ranch. It's a bit expensive, but well worth the harvest.

Reviewer Comments: The day before the hunt, Lee my guide and I watched elk for four hours as they made their presence in a small open meadow. We saw four 6x6 bulls one of which was huge. The first morning, I harvested a good 6x6. My first elk. The following morning Lee and I tried to stalk the huge 6x6 we saw the day before the hunt and we found him. HE WAS HUGE. Too bad I harvested the first morning or the big guy would have been down. I booked again next year and hope to make this a yearly hunt with Lee and Baba. There are some big bulls on the Rio Costilla.
