quality hunt

Richard and Kathy Bailey have a great outfitting service. I have hunted with them twice, once I was the only hunter in camp and was worried I might be "forgotten", boy was i wrong! It was the most fun I have ever had. I hunted again 2 years later with a full camp (6 total) of hunters, I was worried again, thinking I may not get the awesome experience i had the first time, WRONG AGAIN! I had an even better time with the other hunters. Kathy is Richards wife and camp cook and so much more, if you forgot something don't worry Kathy has one, she must have been a girl scout. Lawrance the head guide should have his own survival show, he could live in the bush. Richard is the man! some may say he brags I say its not bragging when you can back up the talk with actions and results, and that he does. Richard displays confidence in his ability to be a good outfitter and makes good decisions to provide a good chance at a great hunt, I pay good hard earned money for those decisions, I don't want to hunt with an outfitter that is second guessing stand placement or animal movement, Richard is a true professional. The cabin is in fine shape, beds are good, the bathroom is kept cleaner than a fine hotel. The meals are great and Kathy uses real plates and utensils not paper and plasticware, that may not mean much to you but wouldn't paper and plasticware seem awefull cheap on a 5thousand dollar hunt. Transportation to the stand is great the atv's are in great shape, and the ride to the stand is anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour and a half through the deep woods depending what stand location you are in. You will see lots of animals both doe and buck. The hardest part is waiting for the right moment to pull the trigger, their is a lot to chose from. After the kill your work is done, the guide and Richard do everything from tracking(you can track too) to loading, skining, caping, cleaning, packing, you name it they do it, it's all included nothing is hidden and their is no EXTRA charge for this that and the other. At camp their is a phone that we all share if you don't have service on the cell, no charge ofcoarse. After the hunt if you want to help place cameras, put out bait, and do camp chores, Richard will put you to work, or you can go watch tv what ever floats your boat. The hunt will be above your expectations, the cost is a lot, but it is average compared to other outfitters, which means you have a lot of value for the money spent. I can't afford to go every year , but I set my goals for everyother year and my next hunt is Nov. 2012 2nd week. I have no problem putting money down to save a spot because Richard and Kathy run an honest and good outfitting service.

I will make a long story short. Richard and Kathy have a great operation, they have all the bases covered, from rifle cases to shooting sticks. Top notch atvs, blinds, bait, camp, food. I work to hard to throw away my money with an outfitter who might be a couple hundred dollars cheaper, but doesn't work so hard to get me that good buck. If you don't shoot a good buck with Richard, it is more than likely your fault, not his. I am saving my money for the next hunt with Richard, should be early November 2012. M. great deer hunt

I hunted with Richard and Kathy of Turtle River Whitetail Outfitters November 15-20, 2010 and had a great hunt, great food and great accommodations. I took a 10 point buck that scored 166 plus.

Whitetail Hunt

This was my first hunt with Turtle River Whitetails & God willing not my last. Saw more deer in one week than my last 3 Saskatchewan hunts combined. Stand location was perfect. Richard & Guides can get you close to big deer. The 2 issues I had were the blind was too small to shoot a recurve out of & the chair was wrong type. Richard said next time all would be corrected. Over-all I give Turtle River 2 thumbes up. Traditional Bow hunters feel free to call for complete scoop.

Whitetail hung

This was was the first of what I hope will be many hunts with Turtle River and Richard Bailey. This hunt meets the true definition of a wilderness hunt. A highly personalized hunt with lots of opportunities. I shot a 158" buck the second day of the hunt. My only disappointment was that I did not hunt longer! I have been on 7 different guided hunts and regard this is the best. This hunt is for the avid hunter. The owner and guides are serious about getting big bucks. It is almost a 20 mile quad ride into the deep forest. It is not the type of hunt that you head back to the lodge for hot chocolate.

Excellent hunt, great guide, superb quarters, delicious meals. Overall atmosphere and hunt was first class for Canada. Mr. and Mrs. Bailey were great hosts. Mr. Bailey has a passion for whitetails and it shows. I highly recommend this hunt for hardcore whitetail hunters that are looking for a quality hunt with the potential to take home a BC class buck.

You won

This will be my third year hunting with Richard, but not my third year hunting in SK. I have hunted Canada since 1994 and SK since 2004 with various outfitters, so I am not a "rookie" by any means. I have had some bad experiences with some outfitters but Turtle River Outfitters WAS NOT ONE OF THEM. In fact the only outfitter I will hunt with now is Turtle River Outfitters. I hunted many years and spent a lot of money to finally find the quality of hunt I have been looking for, and Richard is it. Now I will warn you - if you are planning on a hunt where you drink half the day, play cards all night and then take a 10 minute truck ride to your blind - don't book with Richard. But - if you want a truly remote hunt - where you ride in by quad (4 wheeler), spend the day in a quality blind (yes you may be in the same blind for 3 days - but there is a reason for that if you are familiar with SK big buck patterns), and are patient enough to wait to take a quality buck - this is the hunt you want. Not to mention the excellent accommodations and meals that are beyond excellent. Every day is a full day of hunting. You have to want to hunt and commit yourself to it if want the best experience of your life. If you are looking for a 7 day resort vacation - don't come here. This is a No-Alcohol camp, and attracts REAL hunters. Please call me if you would like to talk about more details.

Deer Hunt

Went to Turtle River with my son in 09 and both got nice deer. Went on reviews from other hunters and am glad I did. Top notch operation no b.s. been to other camps in Saskatchewan and this is the best by far. You drive atvs way out in the woods where you cant possibly see another person, only deer and big ones. Guides are super, owners are super and the food is super. You cant go wrong going here.

Iowa Hunting Information

Iowa is one of the best Midwestern states for monster whitetail bucks. Non-residents must apply for a tag in their annual drawing. Archery tags are the most sought after and depending on what units you apply for generally take 2-4 years to draw.

New Mexico Hunting Information

New Mexico is one of the top destinations for trophy Elk and Antelope hunting. Draw odds can be tough depending on the unit but landowner tags are also available for those who don't draw. Mule Deer are plentiful but generally of average size. Only a couple of units and reservations consistently produce big muleys.

Kansas Hunting Information

Kansas is one of the top producing monster whitetail buck states in the country. It also has some excellent turkey hunting and a few big mule deer in the western part of the state. Kansas has an excellent reputation as a top notch destination for upland birds. It has excellent populations of pheasant and quail due to the vast expanse of suitable prairie and grassland type habitat.
