I had a very successful hunt, shooting a 155in ten pointer with my muzzleloader, after letting 15 other bucks walk, several 130 plus. Excellent equipment, warm clean and comfortable lodging, guides worked hard and the cook was wonderful. I have hunted Saskatchewan nine times and this is a top of the class hunt. I would highly recommend it for a true Saskatchewan wilderness adventure.

In 2009, I made my 4th career trip to Saskatchewan Canada to hunt with Richard and Kathy Bailey with Turtle River Whitetail Outfitters which is located about 30 miles South of Meadow Lake Saskatchewan. Once again it was like coming back home for week. Richard and Kathy have done an outstanding job in making sure that anyone that books their dream hunt with Turtle River Whitetail’s does so with confidence. Richard is a very dedicated whitetail hunter / Outfitter and will do everything humanly possible to put you on a shooter buck. To me a whitetail outfitter should know how to hunt deer and Richard has mastered that both in Michigan and now in Saskatchewan. The Lodge / accommodations are very comfortable and the fact that Richard and Kathy only take a maximum of 6 hunters per week makes for an enjoyable atmosphere. Richard’s equipment is in top notch condition as well, much time and the use of scouting cameras has allowed Richard to place all of his shooting stands in strategic locations to help aid his hunters with success. Not to mention if a shooter buck has not shown up on his cameras in October/November at a particular stand site before his clients show up he will abandon it. Richard wants to make sure each hunter has the best chance at that buck of a lifetime!! Plenty of bait is used at each stand, which to me is very important to keep the doe’s in the area. If you ever have a problem, Richard wants to know about it and if there is a problem, he will make sure it’s taken care of right away. Richard’s guides are very personable, hard working and dependable, you never want for anything in the field. Two way radios are given to each hunter to keep in contact with base camp; heaters are also available to any hunter who needs one. Another nice factor is once stand sites have been assigned, Richard many times will show the hunter the camera picks of the shooter bucks coming into that site, so you have an idea of what to expect and the rest is up to you as the hunter. Richard’s area is very remote and can only be accessed by quad, so you will never see or hear vehicles nor will you see any other hunters, no outside pressure!!! That to me is a huge factor. Last but certainly not least is Kathy’s cooking and one word describes it, Outstanding!!! If you lose weight on this hunt, you better go check with your local doctor.

In November 2009, I made my third trip in a row to Turtle River Whitetail Outiftters hosted by Richard & Kathy Bailey in the area just to the south of Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan. Richard & Kathy run a top notch operation, providing their hunters with excellent accomodations, up to date reliable equipment, well placed stand sites in thoroughly scouted areas, a wealth of whitetail hunting knowledge and experience, and home cooked meals that will make you go back for seconds and thirds! I enjoy the fact that they are a smaller camp, and Richard, Kathy and the guides are able to give you more "personal" service, as opposed to the bigger camps with 30 hunters in at one time. Richard and his guides prescout the area and will not hunt a stand unless there are shooter bucks working the area...period. I feel this gives a paying client his best chance to be successful on his hard earned hunt. They are honest, hard working, good people, and after three years of hunting with them, they are like family to me. I have hunted a total of three different outfitters in Saskatchewan, but Turtle River Whitetail Outfitters gets my vote as the best operation that I have had the privelage to hunt with.

Reviewer Comments: Last year was my 4th year hunting with Richard and Kathy Bailey and Turtle River Whitetails and Richard had me on a termendous buck that he had on camera. I hunted him hard for 6 days and he didn't show, but I took a great 8 pointer. Passed up high 140's bucks on the first 3 days holding out for the larger guy... But that's hunting and what makes it so exciting right!!! Richards guides are very knowledgeable and are excellent woodsmen, Kathy's cooking is OUTSTANDING!! Richards area is very remote, only accessable by quad so you will never see another hunter or hear another vehicle, it's like heaven. If you are looking for a great Saskatchewan hunt with honest trustworthy people, I wouldn't hesitate to give Richard and Kathhy a call and get it booked. If you ever have any quesitons feel free to call me direct.

Reviewer Comments: I was just reading a review from "Jeff", and I am wondering if he got confused about who he was hunting with. This will be my third year hunting with Richard, but not my third year hunting in SK. I have hunted Canada since 1994 and SK since 2004 with various outfitters, so I am not a "rookie" by any means. I have had some bad experiences with some outfitters but Turtle River Outfitters WAS NOT ONE OF THEM. In fact the only outfitter I will hunt with now is Turtle River Outfitters. I hunted many years and spent a lot of money to finally find the quality of hunt I have been looking for, and Richard is it. Now I will warn you - if you are planning on a hunt where you drink half the day, play cards all night and then take a 10 minute truck ride to your blind - don't book with Richard. But - if you want a truly remote hunt - where you ride in by quad (4 wheeler), spend the day in a quality blind (yes you may be in the same blind for 3 days - but there is a reason for that if you are familiar with SK big buck patterns), and are patient enough to wait to take a quality buck - this is the hunt you want. Not to mention the excellent accommodations and meals that are beyond excellent. Every day is a full day of hunting. You have to want to hunt and commit yourself to it if want the best experience of your life. If you are looking for a 7 day resort vacation - don't come here. This is a No-Alcohol camp, and attracts REAL hunters. Please call me if you would like to talk about more details. I AM IN NO WAY CONNECTED TO THIS OUTFITTER, EXCEPT AS A CLIENT.

Reviewer Comments: Richard treated my son and I like family, went out of his way to put us in blinds with BIG deer on the Cuddeback cameras. We hunted 3 years in a row and felt like part of the family. Straight up good hunt, saw 13 bucks in one day, passed a Booner the first day of the second year. I learned more from Richard in 3 weeks than on my own in 25 years. Safe, comfortable and HUGE bucks. I passed up deer other people dream about. Nobody is a stranger in Richard Bailey's camp, nobody goes hungry and everybody leaves as part of the family. Highly recommend this hunt. If you are a SERIOUS deer hunter, Turtle River is the place to go. Call me if you want more information. Take your kids to Turtle River for a lifetime of memories.

Overall Impression: Good chance or opportunity to harvest a book deer!
Recommend: YES
Reviewer Comments: Turtle Creek Outfitters provides you the hunter the best possible opportunity to harvest the buck of your dreams. Now we must remember that the outfitter does what he can but you as a hunter have to hold up you part of the deal by taking you knowledge, skills, and opportunities presented to harvest a buck of a lifetime. I have hunted Canada for 8 years and if you are trophy hunting you will not always go home with a book deer but you have to hunt like you never have before and give it all you can while you are there!!! I cannot tolerate hunters that don’t do their part when they come to Canada and then hold the outfitters responsible for the out come... Please stay home or go to a high fence operation so that when you wake up from your nap you can decide what hand fed pet you want to harvest... Bottom line hunting in the Canadian bush is tuff due to remote conditions, weather and time in the blind. So make sure you are ready by being prepared and working with your outfitter!! Caution if you are a couch potato then for you own best interests please stay home...

Reviewer Comments: My father and I hunted with Richard in 2009 and are going back in 2010. In camp were 4 other hunters which were all repeat customers. This should say it all! The whole hunting experience was great. Last year was not the greatest year for whitetail but that is hunting. My father and I both shot nice bucks. The camp atmosphere, Richard, his wife, the guides, the accommodations, and the other hunters made this trip one of the best trips we have been on.

Reviewer Comments: When an outfitter out right lies to you and it makes you so upset even 4 years later you have to set the record straight. Hunted with many outfitters in SK and across North America and this one was without a doubt hands down the WORST!PERIOD! He never told us a lot of things about the hunt. The biggest one being we could hunt from any of the blinds he had and when we got there he told us we could only hunt from two blinds. He told us he used the best of feed both peas and hay. There was a small pile of peas and absolutely no hay. I can understand how some outfitters get along better with certain people but this guy call me a "FAT ASS" to my friends. I am hardly that! Look at his repeat business and tell me if you see the same faces in those pics. I'm writing this to sling mud I'm writing this to say stay away. I spent a week of my life there that I wish I could have back-along with my MONEY! You need more information call me @ 810-656-0153 Jeff
